Orange Beach is an incredible beach, which is exactly why everyone else thinks so too. In the busiest weeks of the year Perdido Beach Boulevard turns into gridlock, and every restaurant with a view has a wait. Here is where to eat anyway, from an honest local's angle.
A bit of context on who is writing this: we live in Mobile, so Orange Beach is a day trip for us rather than a vacation. We only make it over to the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area about once a year, and our favorite time to go is the fall. That shapes this list. It is one personal favorite, plus a short set of well-reviewed places that are worth knowing about.
How We Picked
If you are a tourist and you like touristy things, you should absolutely eat at the restaurants with the biggest signs out front, or the ones with a giant fish built into the building. That is part of the fun of a beach trip and there is no shame in it. This list is for the other meals: the ones where you want the setting, the food, or both to be the reason you came.
Only The Gulf below is our own pick. Every other restaurant on this page is here because it is open, established, and well reviewed, and we have said what it is known for rather than pretending we have eaten our way through the whole menu.
Our Favorite: The Gulf at Perdido Pass

Our favorite restaurant in Orange Beach, and it is because of the vibes. The Gulf is built out of shipping containers and sits right at Perdido Pass, open-air and steps from the sand, with the pass and the bridge in view. It is the kind of place that makes a beach day feel finished. It is seafood and cocktails, it gets busy around sunset, and the setting is a big part of what you are paying for. We think it is worth it every time.
Where: 27500 Perdido Beach Blvd, at the pass on the east end of Orange Beach.
Waterfront and Sunset Tables
Cobalt, The Restaurant
Tucked under the Perdido Pass Bridge next to Caribe Resort, with a view of the bay from every table and boat slips if you arrive by water. It is known for coastal seafood, a daily happy hour, and live music. A good pick if you want a waterfront dinner on the same side of town as The Gulf. Where: 28099 Perdido Beach Blvd.
Shipp's Dockside Grill
In the old Fisher's space at Orange Beach Marina (Fisher's closed in 2023). It runs two setups: a casual counter-service lower deck with dockside seafood and sushi, and a full-service upper deck in the evenings. Where: 27075 Marina Road, off Perdido Beach Blvd.
Casual Seafood
Wolf Bay Restaurant (Orange Beach)
A family-owned Baldwin County name for more than 50 years, with the original in Foley and a second location on the beach road in Orange Beach. Known for fresh Gulf seafood, a big salad bar, and a “you hook 'em, we cook 'em” deal if you bring in your own catch. The easy answer for a family dinner. Where: 24131 Perdido Beach Blvd.
Date Night and Upscale
Louisiana Lagniappe
Louisiana-style seafood with a Creole bent, overlooking SanRoc Cay Marina and Cotton Bayou. It has been in Orange Beach since 1999, dinner only, and now takes limited reservations on OpenTable alongside walk-ins. Where: 27267 Perdido Beach Blvd, behind SanRoc Cay.
Voyagers at Perdido Beach Resort
The resort's signature dinner restaurant, Gulf-front, with a seasonal menu built around Gulf seafood, dry-aged steaks, and an award-winning wine list. This is the special-occasion pick, and the resort recommends booking ahead. Where: 27200 Perdido Beach Blvd, inside Perdido Beach Resort.
Breakfast and Coffee
Most of the places above are lunch and dinner. For mornings, our best breakfast on the Gulf Coast guide covers the Alabama coast along with the Florida side.
Near The Wharf vs. the Perdido Pass End
Orange Beach dining splits into two zones. The Wharf, on Canal Road beside the Intracoastal, is a full entertainment district with its own restaurants, a Ferris wheel, and an amphitheater, and it makes the most sense as an evening out. Our Wharf Orange Beach guide covers parking and concert-night strategy. The beach-road strip from SanRoc Cay east to Perdido Pass is where The Gulf, Cobalt, and the marina restaurants sit, and it is the better bet if you want water views and sunset.
If you are staying in Gulf Shores, the restaurants in our best seafood in Gulf Shores guide are ten minutes west. And if you keep driving east past the pass, you are into the Florida side within minutes.
Practical Tips: Traffic, Waits, and Timing
- Expect gridlock in peak season. Summer weekends and holiday weeks back up the beach road. Eat early or late and you skip the worst of the traffic and the waits.
- Go in the fall if you can. It is our favorite time to visit. The water is still warm in early fall, the crowds thin out, and getting a table stops being a project. See our Gulf Coast in October guide.
- Reservations are the exception. Many casual waterfront places are first-come, first-served. Book where you can for date-night spots.
- Concert nights change everything near The Wharf. Check the amphitheater calendar before you plan dinner on Canal Road.
